Governor Hochul announces record $33 million for farms to combat climate change

As world leaders convened in New York City for Climate Week, Governor Kathy Hochul announced a record-breaking investment of more than $33 million to support New York farms in addressing the impacts of climate change. The funds, awarded through the state’s Climate Resilient Farming Grant Program, aim to help farmers reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect water quality, enhance soil health, and increase resilience to extreme weather events. “New York State is leading the nation in the fight against climate change, and our record investment in the Climate Resilient Farming Program is just one part of my administration’s ambitious efforts to protect our ecosystems and create the green future all New Yorkers deserve,” Governor Hochul said. “This program gives farmers the resources they need to mitigate their impact on the environment, prepare for and respond to whatever weather events the future holds, and continue their critical work contributing to our local economies.” DiSanto Propane (Billboard) The funding is set to support 70 projects across 184 farms statewide, nearly doubling the program’s previous impact. Administered by county Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs), the grants focus on six key areas: Livestock Management: Alternative waste management and precision feed management. Healthy Soils NY: Practices that support soil health and agroforestry. Soil Health Systems: Implementation of federal soil health initiatives.
