ENVIRONMENT Augusta Chronicle Augusta Average Winter Temperature, provided courtesy of Eleanor Partington, service climatologist, Meteorology Unit at the Georgia Environmental Protection Division The Augusta area should expect mild temperatures on Christmas day, with the possibility of early morning showers, experts say. “On the morning of Christmas Eve it looks like temperatures will be on the chili side, but not as cold as it has been,” said Brad Carlberg, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Columbia, South Carolina. “We’re looking at probably low 30s when people wake up tomorrow. Then warming up throughout the day, getting a little bit closer to normal in the upper 50s.” Tuesday forecast (Christmas Eve) High 57, Low 36. Mostly sunny. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. “There is a very slight chance of some early morning light rain showers,” said Carlberg on Monday. “Might see a few showers early in the morning, but nothing significant by any means. But the likelihood is decreasing with the latest data that we’re looking at. But I’m not going to completely rule it out.” Wednesday forecast (Christmas Day) High 59, Low 39. Mostly sunny, with a high near 59. Calm wind becoming east around 6 mph in the morning. Mostly cloudy, in the evening with a low around 39. “For Christmas Day, we’re looking again in the morning, a little bit more mild,” he said. “We’re looking at mid 30s, for the low and then highs, right around normal, in the upper 50s. We might even hit 60 degrees on Christmas Day.
