Pacific Beach resident Ayan Ramanathan holding his comic book, “Listen Up Kids! Our Climate is Changing.” (Jyoiti Mishra) Wanting to make his voice heard, 12-year-old Ayan Ramanathan has written the comic book “Listen Up Kids! Our Climate is Changing.” The 34-page book consists of multiple scenarios that cover various aspects of climate change, from electric cars to conservation. He will be holding a book signing from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12 at Warwick’s, 7812 Girard Ave. in La Jolla as part of the bookstore’s “Weekends with Locals” event. The Pacific Beach resident and seventh grader at Pacific Beach Middle School said he was inspired to write his first book by his family and his love for the PB community. He focused on climate change in order to raise awareness and share information with his fellow students. “My target (audience) is kids anywhere from second grade to even the end of high school because I feel like anyone can learn more about climate change and what we can do to solve it,” Ayan said. Rather than making his book “doom and gloom,” Ayan said he decided to use a comic book format, which was inspired by some of his favorite books, in order to spread a positive message and explain science in an understandable way for kids. “I feel like I explain it in a way that people can understand,” he said. Ayan created all the illustrations and text by using his iPad. He drew inspiration from his grandfather, who worked as a climate scientist. The cover of Ayan Ramanathan’s book.
